Let’s take the example of a start from Bourg-Saint-Maurice: the Funicular, followed by the Cachette chairlift, takes you up to altitude, where the adventure truly begins. As a gentle warm-up, the Easy Rider trail offers a smooth and playfuldescent; while those eager for a bigger challenge can opt for a more energetic start by dropping straight into the DH Legend, finishing on the Kids Rock learning area in Arc 1800.
The next ascent is via the Transarc gondola, a true gateway to high-altitude panoramas. Take the time to stop at the Minerals Gallery at the mid-station, before continuing to the summit. At the top, a balcony above the clouds awaits, suspended between sky and mountains. From here, the Trank’s trail winds its way through the Arc 2000 cirque. Keep your eyes peeled—you may even spot a few marmots along the route.
Bonus: For curious riders, or those looking to extend the experience without adding too much difficulty, a detour to Peisey-Vallandry is well worth it. From the Minerals Gallery at the Transarc mid-station, join the Woodstock trail, an accessible and enjoyable route that gently meanders through the forest. At the end, the Vallandry gondola provides an easy return to Arc 1800. Take the opportunity to relax on Vallandry’s panoramic terrace or visit the Mountain Animals Museum, an immersive and educational stop before continuing your tour.
At the bottom of Arc 1950, the Bois de l’Ours chairlift takes you back to the other side of the mountain. Another break is possible at the Carreley viewpoint, the perfect place to capture a photo beside the iconic giant LES ARCS letters. After a few more turns along a blue link trail, you’ll find yourself back at the top of Cachette. All that remains is to cruise gently down Easy Rider to your starting point with a smile on your face, a little dust on your calves, and the irresistible urge to do it all over again.
